Leaving a bequest to Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū in your will is a gift to the city and an inspiration to future generations. Mō tātou, ā mō kā uri ā muri ake nei – For us and our children after us.

In the Wizard’s Garden

From its beginning, Christchurch’s public art collection has been largely formed through gifts and bequests by people motivated to share their enjoyment of art.

Stunning proof of the impact of generosity on the Christchurch collection – George Leslie In the Wizard’s Garden 1904. Oil on canvas. Collection of Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, presented to the Canterbury Society of Arts by Wolf Harris, 1907 and gifted to the Gallery in 1932.

We’re always delighted to consider gifts of art. If you are thinking of giving art to the Gallery please contact Jacq Mehrtens on jacq@christchurchartgallery.org.nz

If you would like to gift a financial legacy to the Gallery, your bequest will go to the Christchurch Art Gallery Foundation. The Foundation are building an endowment fund to help Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū acquire works for the city’s collection.

You may choose to join the Foundation as a TOGETHER partner, or give a bequest independently of this programme.

If you’d like to bequeath a work of art from your personal collection, our Gallery director and curators would be happy to visit you and help identify works that may fill gaps in the collection.

This incredible work – Doris Lusk’s Rocks at Oaro (1966, watercolour) – was a generous gift from David and Faith Thomas in 2022.

If you would like to talk to us about a bequest, a gift or a special donation to the Gallery please contact Jacq Mehrtens on jacq@christchurchartgallery.org.nz
